Youth shot in Kalmunai

A youth injured in yet another shooting incident in Periyaneelavani in Kalmunai was admitted to Batticaloa hospital last night.

He was shot at by two unidentified gunmen who came in a motorbicycle around 7.30 last night, Eastern Province DIG Neville Wijesinghe told the Daily News.

He said the youth identified as 'Gajan' was shot at by these unidentified gunmen when he was coming towards Batticaloa with his fiancee from Kalmunai area.

"We still don't have any information whether this incident has any connection with the factional fighting continue in the area," DIG Wijesinghe added.

He said that Police has been informed that the shooting incident could have been the result of a personnel rivalry over a marriage.

The injured person was shot at when he was returning to Batticaloa area after spending some days in her fiancee's house. Police are conducting further investigations.
