100,000 Signature petition from forcibly evicted Northern Muslims

The Organization for the forcibly affected Northern Muslims will be sending a petition with 100,000 signatures to President Chandrika Kumaratunga, United Nations Secretary -General Kofi Anan and Ambassadors of Arab countries tomorrow (Friday) and carry out a silent protest to commemorate the 15 anniversary of their eviction by the LTTE.

The silent protest will commence from Thillyayadi in Puttalam. The Organization say they were evicted from their homes by the LTTE fifteen years ago when the United National Party was in power and nothing had been done so far to address their issues and also to re-settle them in the North where they belong. The organization rquests the international community to bring pressure on the LTTE leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran to re-settle them in the North. The Muslim community living in the North/East continues to live under pressure and hardship. LTTE from time to time carried out ethnic cleansing of the Muslims
